The game is called dead space it is in the horror/survival genre. Survival horrors aren't what they used to be like it the old days of resident evil 1 etc but dead space keeps this category alive, the fact that your just an engineer with no combat experience adds to the horror as sometimes you have to run away while been chased, the slow controls makes this happens instead of the "press 'A' to obliterate everything in the room in 1 second "approach that a lot of games opt for these days, the weapon designs are genius as you can only have one real gun while the others are just mining tools,
The game is structured in a linear way but who cares if its linear, linear games are good its supposed to be a game, This is aimed at the adults more about 18 year olds upwards and it’s for xbox360/ps3/wii and also the pc. Sandbox games (where you can go and do as you please) feel like having a second job e.g. GTA, Oblivion etc,
The Story is based on Isaac Clark and is based in the 26th century. the USB ishimura during the process of mining a planet called aegis VII sent out a distress signal to Concordance Extraction Corporation (CEC) who dispatch the kellion which is the ship your on as kellion tries to dock with ishimura a malfunctions occurs and the kellion is badly damaged and they are now stuck docked with the ishimura and then search another method of transport by venturing the ishimura but come in to alot of trouble on the way and find crews of the ishimura to have become monsters or even worse dead even though it was supposed to be abandoned and these monsters kill off everyone but Clarke, Hammond and Daniels.
back on the genre, I found myself progressing through the game slowly with my weapon constantly raised incase something pops out and try’s to have my limbs for supper, it takes a lot for a game to achieve this, and this is achieved through atmosphere, and pant wetting sound effects. I believe there is replay value as it will take a number of playthroughs to upgrade everything and there is downloadable content as well to keep you playing as well. It is rather hard at first but as you get into the game its easier and you know how to handle yourself obviously it gets harder as you go on different difficulties but when your used to it all difficulties seem reasonable.
The player modes are just single player there isn’t a multiplayer in this game it would be better with multiplayer I would say but it’s a great game anyway without it. It is mainly an action/shooter game all the way through and never fails to keep you on the edge of your seat, its also a really addictive game once you get playing its hard for you to come off, you also get rewards as you go along you collect these items called power nodes that you use at a station and can upgrade your health and buy new guns with these coins you get and also upgrade your guns along the way.
The Characters are represented really well in this game and there is also a twist in the good and bad characters which you will find out later on in the game. Isaac doesn’t have any sort of special abilities but there are some awesome weapons in the game that cut the monsters limbs off which is the only way to kill them
The graphics are brilliant as well and the atmosphere of the music makes it all the more dramatic. Dead Space is one of the best games I have played this year and probably one of the best horror games I have played. If not the best its got to be one of the best in its genre comparing to resident evil and other titles similar. I am a big gamer and this satisfied my needs it has everything from a great story to the graphics being brilliant and is probably the scariest game you will ever play so it's not for the weak hearted. One of the things that stand out is that there is no HUD which means more room for great graphics and they really make it realistic with your health bar on your back and your ammo on your gun its is truly a stunning game .
Definitely more fun than Resident evil 5 which is the latest horror game to come out after dead space, achievements well balanced and do not rely solely on harder difficulty levels. Would have got 5 stars if a multiplayer mode was included but it’s not that kind of game. It has boss levels although these are a fun challenge rather than irritating like the over rated Resident evil 5.Put the lights out and enjoy , id probably give the game a 9/10 because it still has its faults like every other game does but it’s a brilliant game and is one of the best games made to this day.
